Jazz Guitarist Larry Tamanini has been active on the Philadelphia Jazz scene since the mid 1990's. He spent his formative years studying the nature of the guitar with jazz guitar virtuoso Pat Martino and legendary music teacher Dennis Sandole. Upon both Pat & Dennis's urging Larry cultivated his sound and vocabulary at Ortlieb's Jazzhaus, performing and gaining essential knowledge during "the hang". It was through these impromptu encounters that Larry was able to play with the likes of Mickey Roker, Bootsie Barnes, Shirley Scott, Trudy Pitts, & many other well respected pillars of the rich Philadelphia jazz scene.
Larry has had the pleasure of performing numerous local and US Jazz Festivals including early appearances at The Mellon Jazz Festival, Cape May Jazz Festival, Glenwood Springs Jazz Festival & The Center City Jazz Festival. He can also be seen on NPR's popular Jazz Night in America commemorating the history of Philadelphia Jazz entitled "Home Cooking". He can also be heard on numerous recordings appearing on albums featuring Mike Boone, John Swana, Byron Landham, Rhenda Fearrington, Mark Adams, Roy Ayers, Kathy Sledge & a long list of talented musicians.
Larry continues to maintain an active performance schedule with several weekly gigs in the Bucks County Philly Metro area. Larry hosts the popular Sunday Night Jazz Jam at the Penn Taproom in Doylestown. The Sunday night Jam provides an opportunity for the areas young and up in coming talents a chance to interact on the bandstand with Larry and the many other seasoned musicians he brings with him every week. For Larry, the community aspect of the music is vital to keeping the jazz culture alive. Larry learned the value of the jazz community feel when he played at Ortlieb's with the likes of Pete Souders, Byron Landham, Mike Boone, & Sid Simmons. The lessons he learned from these local legends helped pave the way for Larry to later share the stage with the likes of Joey DeFrancesco, Phil Woods, Richie Cole, and many others.
